Charter & Rules

Scott Golf Association

Rules to govern play are as follows:

  1. Players may improve their lie 1 SCORE CARD length in any direction except no nearer to the hole being played. Exceptions to this is if the ball is in hazards, or out of bounds. If the ball is in hazard it can be played as it lies without any penalty, or it may be removed and dropped according to the rules of golf depending on the color of the stakes around that hazard and at that point you take a 1 stroke penalty. Player can’t use SCORE CARD length to bring ball in bounds or remove from hazard.
  2. The “A Player” or Captain (person who’s name is listed first on scorecard) will be responsible for all decisions concerning rules interpretations within the group. If there is a question about the rule interpretations are disputed, play 2 balls and the correct decision will be discussed after the round.
  3. All putts must be holed out. Gimmies are not allowed, ANYONE confirmed GIVING OR ACCEPTING PUTTS will be DISQUALIFIED from that tournament. If it doesn’t go in the hole it doesn’t count as a score!
  4. Play will be from 3 consecutive sets of tees to be determined at each golf course. Ladies, Seniors then Regular. Regular tees will be as close to 6500 yds as possible.
  5. Score cards should be filled out on each hole as follows with players FIRST and LAST name:

Bogey = 1

Par = 2

Birdie = 3

Eagle = 4

Hole In One = 5

  1. Total POINTS for EACH NINE should be totaled and the total for 18 holes listed.
  2. It is the players responsibility to verify their score on the official scorecard after a round, if an incorrect card is turned in it will be the players fault and the player can be disqualified from the tournament.
  3. Guests are not eligible for closest to hole prizes
  4. Pace of play is very important! Please play ‘ready golf’ and keep up with the group in front of you. If a hole in front of you is open, and the group behind is waiting on you, you are playing too slow.
  5. Rangefinders are allowed, but not intended to get a distance for each member of the foursome. If the use of rangefinders slows pace of play too much, they will be banned from SGA play.
  6. Players disqualified from a tournament will not receive a refund of their entry fee.
  7. All groups must consist of at least two SGA members; you are not allowed to play holes by yourself.
  8. Pickup your ball after your bogey shot, unless you are in a match play and the outcome of the hole is undecided. Double Bogey and higher count as 0 points so once you are unable to make bogey your score doesn’t change. Picking up allows us to speed up pace of play.

Code of Conduct:

Your conduct on the course reflects on the Scott Golf Association and may impact our ability to return to certain golf courses. Please show respect to the course, environment, other golfers and course employees.

  1. Club throwing is a major breach of etiquette and can result in expulsion from the organization.
  2. While we all know that obscenities are usually associated with a large part of our games, if they can be heard by members in groups other than your foursome they are too loud.
  3. If it appears that obscenities used in your foursome are making some of your foursome uncomfortable, the obscenities need to stop.
  4. Be mindful of your foursome and others on nearby fairways and tee boxes, when they are preparing for a shot or putt and keep conversations to a minimum during these times. Just because you don’t mind someone talking in your backswing doesn’t mean everyone is ok with it.
  5. Most courses we will play at will require a collared shirt and will not allow denim jeans.
  6. Intentional cheating and disregard for the rules above will not be tolerated.

Repeated complaints will be investigated with probation and or expulsion as potential sanctions against the offending person.
